We are currently accepting submissions for our Cancer Anthology with an anticipated release date of October 2010 (Cancer Awareness Month). We want your true stories about your journey, the journey of a loved one or your secondhand experience as caregiver or medical professional. We want the anger, the despair, the “why me, God?” and the moment you realized, that despite the ravages to your body, the body of the loved one or the person in your professional care… you gained strength from the experience. Tell us about it, keep it real, nothing is taboo. The aim is to strengthen those who’ve just begun the journey, form a sort of mentorship for those desiring it, devotionals, coping strategies for the pain, recipes that tempt the appetite and anything else that you wish to share.
Guidelines:
All essays/stories should be nonfiction narratives, written in the first-person. Focus on one or a few selected moments; do not send rants or political speeches. Essays/Stories should be titled. Essays/Stories should be between 500 – 1,500 words. Devotionals should be between 200 – 500 words and poems restricted to 40 lines. Reprints are ok as long as the author retains the rights to the piece and lists where previously published. No funky fonts, please. Include a brief bio (1-3 sentences) at the end of your submission and include a headshot (neck and shoulders) to info@divinetruthpress.com.
Deadline: June 30, 2010
Writers chosen for the anthology will be notified via email by August 31, 2010.
Compensation will be in the form of two (2) contributor copies and the opportunity to purchase additional books at a 50% discount. Authors will be invited to participate in all book signings and any other promotional activities.
Dear Steven,
We would be happy to have a look at the poems. Feel free to submit them.
Sincerely,
Dee
Hi,
I am a cancer survivor and would love to forward a submission, but I live in New Zealand. Would this present a problem or hinder any chance of selection for your Cancer Anthology.
Kind regards,
Don
Hi Don,
It would present no problem at all. Only drawback would be that you would not be present for any book signings or other live promotional events.
Sincerely,
Dee
Dee,
Does the writer retain all rights upon publication? I would like to submit a chapter from a book-length memoir about cancer.
Thanks,
Kim
Hi Kim,
Yes they do!
Thanks for checking and we will be happy to receive your chapter.
Sincerely,
Dee

I have a couple of poems that would appear to be appropriate for this subject.
However, although they are normally considered to be about cancer, they are not explicit about that, and my personal experience was in fact not with cancer, but other medical issues, also serious, also life-threatening, and thankfully, also resolved as of now.
Are you interested in considering them for this anthology?
